General Overview

Thank you for your participation while reviewing the illustrations work of the Caricature and Comic styles. I will bring my digital camera to the December 9th class period to photograph any work you will need for student presentations. Those of you who want work photographed just need to let me know. I plan to put them in the ANM 101 Class Folder for your access.

Next Week

We will start the December 9th class session with a review of the December 2 illustration styles by reviewing selected pieces of work and reviewing the answers to the questions:

1.What adjectives can you use to describe the properties of the Caricature Style?

2. What similarities are there between Comic illustrations and the illustrations that you saw when we studied Children’s Book illustration?

Then we will move onto the styles of Neo Realism, Neo Surrealism and Neo Victorian.

Final Project Work Time

I will start this session with an example of a presentation that demonstrates:

The creation of artwork that immitates a particular illustrator or style and a presentation of the process of the artwork creation.

Please be prepared to work during this time either on research, writing, artwork concept development, artwork production, presentation production, etc. I will be reviewing your progress and taking photos of in-progress artwork.

Homework:

1. Find 5 illustrations from either of the Caricature or Comic styles.

2. Make copies by either printing them from the web, / scan and print or photocopy from books.

3. Adhere these (glue stick, paste, tape, etc.) into your “process book”.

a. It would be to your advantage to write down the illustrator’s name and the title of the illustrations under (or near) each illustration.

For the next class session next:

1. Bring your class supplies with you THIS INCLUDES SUPPLIES TO WORK ON YOUR FINAL PROJECT ASSIGNMENT.

General Overview

Thank you for your participation while reviewing the illustrations work of the styles of the Push Pin Studio, Polish Posters, Primitivism, Minimalism and Psychedelic. It was great to see so many of you actively involved in the work and/or creation of your final project. During the December 2nd class period I will be photographing  your work progress –those of you who will be doing presentations to the class may use the photos I will be taking. I plan to put them in the ANM 101 Class Folder for your access.

1.What similarities do you see among the poster illustrations of the Push Pin Style and the Polish Poster Style?

2. What differences do you see between the Polish movie posters and the American movie posters?

3. What are the recurring styles, themes, motifs you see in:

a. Primitivism Style of illustrations?

b. Minimalism Style of illustrations?

4. How are they similar?

5. How are they different?

Then we will move onto the styles of Caricature and Comics.

General Overview

Thank you for your great participation while reviewing the children’s illustration work and your summary of your final project. The one-on-one reviews took a lot of time but I believe it was time worth spending. I feel confident that every student I met with has a good handle on what they want to achieve.

Next Week

Because of the time spent with the one-on-one reviews we were only able to cover half of the illustration work I had planned on covering. Next week we will start with the class session with answering the question:

1.What are the recurring styles, themes and motifs you see in:

a. The Gothic illustration work?

b. The Sci Fi illustration work?

Then we will move onto the styles of the Push Pin Poster and the Polish Poster for review and discussion. Next week I also plan on getting started reviewing the styles of Primitivism, Minimalism, and Psychedelic.

Thank you for your Final Project summaries and your participation while reviewing the Children’s Illustration work last Thursday.

Next Week

Next week I would like to start the class with a research session plus a one-on-one review regarding the subject of your final projects. While I visit with each student the rest of the class will be working either on research for their final project or be working on an in-class review process book assignment.

We will then move on to looking at and discussing the illustration styles of Gothic, Sci Fi, Push Pin and Polish.

Homework:

1. Select one of the Children’s illustrators we reviewed in class and find 5 of their illustrations that were not displayed in class.

2. Make copies by either printing them from the web, / scan and print or photocopy from books.

3. Adhere these (glue stick, paste, tape, etc.) into your “process book”.

a. It would be to your advantage to write down the illustrator’s name and the title of the illustrations under (or near) each illustration.

For the class session next week:

1. Bring your class supplies with you.

2. Be prepared to discuss your thoughts and intentions regarding your final project.
