About the September 30, 2010 Class Session
Another good class yesterday –and thank you for your input regarding the class structure. I’m looking forward to hear more of your ideas and concepts about it.
At the end of class, I asked you to think about this question (see below) please roll it over in your mind and be prepared to discuss this with your group next Thursday.
1. What are the major differences you see in the subject matter and style of the “Realism” illustrators of Steven Dohanos/Norman Rockwell compared to Coby Whitmore?
Next week we will start with group work and a discussion regarding the above question and then move onto looking at the illustrators of the Arts & Crafts Style, the Art Nouveau Style, and the concept of the “Object Poster”.
Homework:
1. Select one of the illustrators we reviewed in class and find 5 of their illustrations that were not displayed in class.
2. Make copies by either printing them from the web, / scan and print or photocopy from books.
3. Adhere these (glue stick, paste, tape, etc.) into your “process book”.
a. It would be to your advantage to write down the illustrator’s name and the title of the illustrations under (or near) each illustration.
For the class session next week:
1. Bring your class supplies with you.
2. To better prepare for the next class session I recommend you read the information in your textbook on the Arts & Crafts style (pages 26 – 27), the Art Nouveau style (pages 29 – 35) and the Object Poster (pages 36 – 41).
Looking forward to seeing you in class next Thursday – class will start at 1:30 p.m. Please plan accordingly.
